Sanity Derailment is a webcomic. But not just any webcomic. It’s a collaboration between two friends: myself, Daniel Tan (BoltClock), and Nicole Lim (Nikkiko). You can read more about BoltClock and Nikkiko at their about pages.
What exactly is this about?
There isn’t really a particular topic that Sanity Derailment is centered around. As much as you can tell from the name of the site itself, not much can be guessed. In fact, that’s what we intended! Even we don’t know what our next comic might be, let alone you, the reader!
I publish a new comic every other Monday, and Nikkiko, having an aptly uniquely randomly peculiar schedule, issuing one every 12th and 17th of a month (I don’t know why, I suggest you ask her if you’re so inclined to know). If either the 12th or 17th is a Monday, that day’s comic will be published only by Nik; I will skip that day. By the way, I publish at 8 pm UTC + 8 (that’s 5 am PDT, 7 am EST and noon UTC) and Nik publishes at noon UTC + 8 (that’s 9 pm PDT, 11 pm EST and 4 am UTC).
That means that Sanity Derailment will produce at least one comic a week (not counting the occasional trip-up or mishap), sometimes more. And of course, there will be surprises!
Why two authors?
Heh — it all started with this humble post at Nik’s old blog. That’s right: it was her drawing style, which I found cute, that triggered the eventual birth of Sanity Derailment! Indeed it was crude Photoshop brush art, but everybody starts somewhere, after all… nevertheless, I saw Nik’s potential and began raving at her endlessly about her drawing style which I’d fallen in love with immediately.
Back then we intended to make me the sole think tank for all the comic plots and punchlines and let Nik be my artist, but that soon changed, and we do both together. Brilliant, eh?
Also, notice the two vastly different drawing styles of the two webcomic authors? We figured that having the exact same style would bore the crap out of everybody reading this webcomic, and it would go as far as to no longer matter who’s drawing and publishing. And that certainly would default the purpose of a multi-author webcomic, wouldn’t it?
From that we concluded that we could draw however we want, but we do share a tip or two once in a while to keep our stuff in check. In fact, if either of us are feeling nice one day… we may even share our tips with you, the reader! We don’t claim to be professional cartoonists who work at Disney and roll in mad paper, but we’ll still be glad to share what we know
Sounds awesome, what else is there?
We’ve got our own forums where you can discuss anything and everything… at least pertaining to the webcomic! Do note that we’re supposed to keep the place family-friendly, and bullies are welcome to head elsewhere and not torment us here, thankyouverymuch.
